Hi
i've been getting errors on my cd-drives lately. I can't find the drives in "My Computer" (I have a DVD drive and a CD-RW on my computer) I have tried everything.
Including Reinstalling drivers, updating drivers, uninstalling and pluging in and out,etc....
But no matter what I do, everytime I go in My Computer, their are no CD drives, only the C and the A drive.
When I got to device manager, I got this error on my 2 CD-drives:
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
I don't know if something is wrong with the computer or it's a virus that's causing the problem. Another error on the device Manager list says that I have a errror on the PCI device and I must reinstall. I have already tried reinstalling the drivers, but it doesn't help.
I can't find my bootdisk or reinstallation disks:(

Just a suggestion, Make sure the writer is set to second Master and the dvd is set to first slave.
With regard to the PCI device, check in the Device manager to see if marked with a yellow flag. It is possible you have an onboard device that hasn't been blocked out in the BIOS.Good luck!

I had a similar problem with not resolution using Win2K. IDE CDROM and SCSI DVD, along with a SCSI MO disk. During boot up everything was found and listed, when I got into 2K the only thing that showed was the SCSI MO. Wasn't sure what I did to get from all the usable and visible to only 1 of the devices visible.
Device drivers didn't work, hardware add/remove didn't work, nothing I tried would work.
Rebuilt the system and haven't had any problems since.
Keep us posted if you find the solution.
