Trying to uninstall because it did not load properly. Tried uninstalling it using the program files, tried in safe mode, tried 2 kinds of registry cleaners and still I can't reinstall because it says the driver is installed.

Linksys tech support is suppose to send my their reg cleaner, but if two others don't work, what makes this one work?

Any advice on how I unistall this program with out having to do a clean install of my win2K?

What program is it? To answer the question about the registry cleaner from Linksys. They probably taylored it to the specific files they already know are installed.

Explore the CD for the program and see if there is an uninstaller included on the CD. Sometimes reinstalling and then removing will work. If an uninstaller is included use it rather than Windows add/ remove. View the installed files in the folder for the program to find an uninstaller.

I'm sorry- I'm so frustrated with this, I forgot to tell you the program. It is a USB wireless adapter. The program froze while loading and I can't reinstall because it says the driver is already installed. Can't search the CD, won't allow me. I tried using their uninstall program and it still won't uninstall. So you think their registry program will work? Im ready to just give up and take the program back. Problem is, I will still have this on my PC.

Place the CD in your drive. If it autostarts, cancel. Open My Computer and right click the drive icon and choose Explore. You should be able to view the files on the CD.

Did you follow the directions accompanying the device? The normal method is to install some files first and then connect the device when prompted. Is that how you did it?

Just go to Device manager and look for devices with a yellow exclamation mark. Remove that device and reboot.

Yes I did follow the instructions. When the CD was load the programs. It froze at 30% and didn't move, which is why I had to reboot.

I did what you said and there were files. I tried to delete them but I couldn't. Said could not delete read only files.

Found the PCI Device with the "!" and deleted it. Rebooted and tried to reload the CD and still says driver is already installed!

You can right click the read only files and change the attributes by unticking the read only box.

yes- I already posted a question on there as well.

They sent the registry program, in zip format. The old pc doesn't open zip files. Ugh.

Ok- downloaded a zip program and tried to run the clean registry program they sent, And yes does target just their programs. Says it fail!! Back to tech "no support". The model USB adapter Im trying to remove is not even listed in their regcleaner program. After this I'm just taking it back. I can't afford to waste anymore time on this.

Update. Linksys says they regret to inform me that they don't have a registry cleaner for the USB model number. Go figure.

I don't understand why you can't remove the device. Did you try looking in add/ remove programs to see if anything is listed there?

Yep it's there, and it won't uninstall. When I try to do it it freezes up after uninstalling 5% of the program. When I try to uninstall in safe mode it says it unistalled it, but then it still there and I can't reinstall the program cause it says the driver is already installed. I know it is weird.
