After adding a win2k machine to our domain, I wanted to copy the user's local profile to her domain profile WITHOUT ending up with 2 profiles. The already present local profile (i.e. jsmith) and the soon to be domain profile (jsmith.xyz). What I wanted to do is rename the Default User profile to Default User.old and rename the local profile (jsmith) to Default User. Log in to the domain with the jsmith account and log off again to create the profile. Then log back in as admin and copy the Default User(which is actually the jsmith local profile) profile to the jsmith domain profile. Then delete the Default User profile and rename the Default User.old back to Default User in order to get everything back to the way it was.

For some reason even as the admin I could not rename the Default User profile. I kept getting a "Cannot rename Default User: Access is Denied
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."

I tried changing ownership, giving everyone full control and nothing worked. Any reason why the admin account cannot rename the Default User account?

I should say that I did rename the admin account from the plain old Admininistrator to something else so no one would try to log on as administrator and spend hours trying to guess the password. We figure renaming the account is one more step in ensuring some sort of security.

I've done a bit of searching but can't find anything addressing why the administrator can't rename the folder. Ironically I cna do it on other systems so there's somehting about this particular one. I think it has somehting to so with renaming the administrator account. Changing the account name back to administrator didn't do anything.
