Comment:

A work computer has a Trojan that keeps replicating itself identified by AVG as Downloader.Agent with several variant extensions. Files are written into the System32 directory that AVG identifies as a virus, however, some AVG finds can't be seen even with hidden files being shown.

No sooner than AVG runs sending up to 31 infected files to the virus vault than a message pops up that a virus has been found and to run AVG. I've also run AdAware and HiJackthis, each finding files to delete, but they keep coming back.

I've searched the net for a healer program, but have come up empty. Oh, I've also booted up in safe mode, and AVG won't run. I sure hope there is some help out here.

Go to F-Prot.com where they have an anti-virus program that you can download that fits on a floppy. Download the program and transfer it onto a floppy. Then boot using a Win98 boot disk to an A: prompt, replace the boot floppy with the F-Prot disk and type f-prot.exe c: You can get the W98 bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com After that you might need to run a repair to your OS. If you are not sure how to do it, send me an email. Hope this helps.

I Have exactly the same problem running win2000 pro, and AVG free. AVG says it has moved the infected files to the "vault" but when I re-run AVG it turns up the same files again. I Tried to find that F-Prot.com file you mentioned, that will fit on a floppy, but the only things (smallest) was the DOS version (over 2MB). The WIN2000 was over 7MB.
Could you give a url for a direct point to the file that fits on a floppy. Many thanks

I should have checked the site before posting. It's been over a year since I used it and the site has changed. You could copy the DOS file to a CD and perform the operation using the W98 bootdisk and your CD drive.
