I've changed my password, and didn't bother writing it down..Unlike NT 4.0, I can't logon as user-name "Administrator" with a blank password. This is a home p.c., not on a network...HELP!

If you forgot your admin password, you most likely have to clean install Windows..
Sorry..

One route I've offered in the past - after finding it elsewhere... is to install a second bare-bones W2K to/as C:\temp\winnt; then boot to it. You get a fresh Admin login box; leave password blank, and boot through to Desktop. Locate (via Explorer) the SAM in the original W2K install and delete it. Then reset OS to boot to the original version. Reboot and again you will get a fresh Admin-login. Leave password blank? (As it's your home PC why not???). Boot through to Desktop, and you should have full access. Any 'Users/Accounts' you 'had' in the original SAM will have gone - you deleted the SAM... so you have to recreate them...
Haven't ever used the above route; but it came from a source that seemed 'to know its onions...'
Possibly better...
The Linux boot-disk will allow you to reset the NT/W2K Admin. password; more details etc. at:

Where there are also other/various suggestions/options included.
Overall the Linux approach is probably the simplest?
