Hello all,

I have a pc that has a static IP like 60.24.x.x. I also have other computer that are getting dynamic IPs 192.x.x.x.

Okay I can ping the static pc from other pc's that have static within the same subnet but I can not ping it from the local subenet 192.x.x.x. If I ping the static pc with the name of the computer it does resolve it's DNS name to it's IP on the first line but as far as the 4 packets it cannot reach the destination.

Anyone have any clues?

Are these pc's using the same OS?

Are they members of the same workgroup or Domain?

first of all, the OS of the PC's, and their workgroup/domain configuration is totally irrelevant. Second, its hard to get an idea of your current configuration. BUT heres what I would do: Think about the routing paths. If you are trying to ping an external address from inside a local network, you need a default gateway that forwards all of your packets. A very very good diagnostic tool is the "tracert" cmd from the DOS prompt. That command will show you every hop that your packet takes. You can map out your routes and figure out where the problem really is. If you can't solve it after tracert-ing your network, id read up on subnets and gateways. your problem is somewhere in there i suspect.

Yes you are on 2 different subnets.
Basically you cant get there from here.

Your only two options are to reconfigure the static to dynamic IP address or manually set it to static IP address of 192.XXX.XXX.XXX
but you still have to be careful that the subnet masks put them both on the same segment. Your safest bet if cofiguring statically is to choose one that is one removed from an ip that works already.
