I had no problem loging on to my laptop before I messed with the network settings. I know the password for my user. I don't know the admin password. I was trying to get my laptop to recognize my home network. I thought maybe it was having problems since it still thought it was part of the domain for the company it used to belong to (now defunct). I removed the domain. Now I can't logon. The logon page doesn't even ask for a doamin. There is a critical file I need. What are my options?

Steve:
There are various programs available to change the admin password. I suggest a google search. I know Knoppix has one in one of it's application or tools menues. Other options would be a hard drive adapter such as: http://store.yahoo.com/directron/nbadapter.html or an external USB enclosure.

if you only need a file from it just set the hardrive in an other comp as 2nd hardrive and you can copy the file.
The problem is when you disjoined the domain you also adjusted your profiles. So only an admin can login. Dont know why you dont know the password of that but else you can use a linux boot disk

erd commander will allow you to change the admin pw as well. since it used to be on a domain, you might as well reinstall it as a workgroup pc.

hmmmm you are saying you tried to logon with your user ID and password?
How did you logon without being hooked up to the domain before??
You should have local logon rights if you did indeed logon without connecting to the domain.
Rule #1 Good computers don't go down.
Rule #2 There is no such thing as a good computer.
