Hi,

Thank for answering my question. I am currently tried to study W2K server.
After installing and complete configuration of W2K server on my home system.
When I configure the Active Directory, the system keep coming back with the Error:
"Active Directory installation failed: the network location can not be reached...."
Is this any thing to do with DNS?
Look forward to your help? Thanks again

Cheers,

Wayne

Yeah I too had similar problem. I beleive u can install active directory only in a network environment. Put a ether card in the server system and a dummy node connected to another system and try installing the active directory. Dont forget to give a ip for the server machine.

Hope this help you

Active Directories requires that DNS and DHCP are active somewhere in your network. Do you have these installed and active? That may clear up your issue :)

kaushikh is correct - w2k needs to think it has an active network connection to a network for AD to install. Even plugging the server into a hub that has no other computers connected will do.

And Active Directory does NOT require DHCP. DNS yes, DHCP no.

And I second what barefoot says. If the cable has an unplugged status, it will not let AD install.
