Comment: While installing windows 2000 operating system on a home built computer I boot off the CD-ROM and it starts installing the OS but the it says, "File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 4" Alright so I thought the file was scratched out of the CD but when I booted it from my other home built computer it worked. I've tried 2 different hard drives and get the same error some how I'm thinking it's athe motherboard but would that mean I can't install windows 2000 on my new computer? Thanks -Andy

Reply: (edit)if you can set your new drive up in your other pc as a slave then copy the i386 folder from the cd to the hard drive (make sure its fat32) then put it back in your new pc and boot from a win98 startup disk (make sure you copy smartdrv.exe onto your startup disk and after you boot from the startup disk type smartdrv.exe at the A: prompt and hit enter, then go to c:\i386 folder and type winnt and hit enter to start the installation. the problem is probably a cdrom prob.
