Hi everyone:
I'm not able to intall win2000 pro on a system w/ k6 2 500. After setup copies all the files into the c drive and performed drive check, I get a message (can't remember word for word) that saids drive c is corrupted and win2000 will not be installed. I swapped the hard drive into a PIII 600 and set up just continues without problem. Does anyone have any idea how can I get win2000 install on my k6 2 successfully? I've tried swapping everything except the CPU and the motherboard. Thanks in advance for your help. The system configuration is as follows:
CPU: AMD k6 2 500
Motherboard: soyo 5ema+
Graphic Card: Creative lab (nvdia TNT w/16meg)
CD-ROM: toshiba 24x
RAM: micron 128mb (pc133)
HD: WD 10.2 IDECPU: AMD k6 2 500
Motherboard: soyo 5ema+
Graphic Card: matrox millenium (8 meg)
CD-ROM: toshiba creative lab 52X
RAM: Cubig 64mb (pc100)
HD: WD 10.2 IDE

Don't buy Intel, they suck. I have a K62 533. Win 2000 works great. The only thing I can suggests is to upgrade your bios(flash it). Other than that, I'm not sure what to tell you. I running my cpu on a Tyan board with similiar components to yours.
Good luck.

i also have a k6-2 350 ...!! and still windows 2000 can run without any problem .. thow i have 128 mb ram..

I have a 750 AMD with Asus MOM. 512 ram, only had minor driver problems which I expected. I vote for the BIOS upgrade. Good luck

Hi, I am writing because when I install windows 2000 in my AMD-K6 333 and 128 RAM doesn't detect cd-rw hp and also give and error like a blue srcreen when i boot up the computer it is says that I have to go to the bios and set it pu alot of problem.
can you answer this question please and fell free to wirite me and semd me a e-mail thanks jaime.

AC, I ran into the same problem last weekend. I had to boot to a floppy and format both drives as FAT32 before W2K would load. After that, it was fine. This seems to be a limitation with either the m/b or the AMD. I installed on my PII machine without those extra steps. Good luck!

Getting: too many errors or hard drive corrupted
Soyo 5EMA+ v1.x (bios dated 5/26/2000)
AMD k6-2 500
384MB RAM
Western digital WDC WD20 5AA (20GB)Still get the error after a low-level format!!!
Service Pack 1 didn't help either.
Upgrading Win98SE or fresh install gives the same results.
Any ideas/solutions?
Thanks,
Joe

I had a similar problem with a K6-2-500 installing Win98 SE when it rebooted it blue screened. I could cure this by doing the following:
Disable the L1 cache (unacceptable as performance was very bad)
Reseat the heatsink (ot was loose and the CPU was getting too hot) - It's always the obvious things
Run the Core voltage slightly higher. From memory the CPU says 3.2V, but if you run at 3.3 it's within the tolerance of the CPU and also runs a treatGood luck
