This is my previous post.

I'm trying to upgrade 98se to win 2k but every time I run the CD I get
The option to upgrade will not be available at this time because setup was unable to load the file F:\1386\WIN9XUPG\W95UPG.DLL.

If I try a clean install using the floppy disks i get

STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\systemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

I have an AMD 750 on an ABIT KA7 board.
I have removed all my PCI cards except my GeForce 2 GTS.
I have tried disabling my Plexwriter 12/10/32a, and my Traxadata 8432+.
I am using a Toshiba S-MD1402 DVD as CD-ROM.
I have the latest Bios update.
Can't think what the problem could be.
Is my Motherboard not compatible?

Someone please help.

I'm just about to throw my PC out the window PLEASE HELp

If you can help either reply, email, or ICQ (100317887) me.

THANK YOU

I had the same problem but was able to resolve by setting the BIOS to its default, so you may want to give it a try!

If that doesn't work, do you have a full Win2K disc ? How are you running the upgrade ? It might be a daft question, but are you using a WinME boot disc to enter DOS. If you are, this will cause the setup to fail, you must use a Win98 disc or the Win2K setup discs. If you only have upgrade, let me know whether the BIOS default works or not and I'll get back to you. Also what sort of HDD do you have and what controller is it linked to.

Hope this solves you problem.
Have you made the 4 setup disks?
If you have then you can only boot from these.
Do you have mass storage devices installed?
if you do then the setup will not let you go on. You must uninstall these.
Also if you are doing a clean install and you have an ultra 66 or above hardrive pluged into the blue ultra66 port it will not work. You will have to plug the cable into the normal IDE port and run the initial set up configured like that. Once windows 2000 is installed then shut down and change the cable back to the blue port. windows will start up and find the mass storage device and ask for the drivers.

Hope that has helped you.

I also have the same problem... Clean install of Windows 2000 Pro on a brand-new Maxtor 40 Gig DiamondMax hard drive (ATA-100 compatible, my motherboard only supports ATA-66). I was getting the same problem under Maxtor 20 Gig DiamondMax hard drive (ATA-33)

I have KT7 motherboard, AMD 800Mhz thunderbird Socket A and 128 mb ram.

Thank you in advance.
