I'm unable to install IE6, "Internet explorer 6", on my W2K, "windows 2000", server SP4, "service pack 4".
I'm in the process of rebuilding the system after major problems. I first installed new version of W2K into the "TempNT" directory. This allowed me to boot the system and start the repair. During that process I installed IE6 in the new W2K installation. I've installed IE5.5 on the old installation "WinNT", but can't install IE6. After I accept the EULA, I get the following message from install
------------------------
Windows update Internet explorer and Internet tools
Windows 2000/Windows XP install - < 0.1 MB
...
------------------------
This message seems to indicate that the install wants to install a minus amount of data. In downloaded the program from MS and used the same install EXE to do the install of "TempNT".
Below is the next message the install program puts out and will not allow me to continue.
---------------------
There is not enough disk space to install Internet explorer.
Once installation is complete Windows Update will only require 429542383 KB of disk space, but to complete the process an additional 14000 KB of space is needed. This space will become available again after Windows Update Setup has completed.
You need to have '429542383' KB free on drive C.
---------------------
My free space on the C: drive is 5,076,807,680 bytes or 4.72 GB. I think the program wants 439,851,400,192 bytes or 400+ GB for it's install. I can logoff this installation, "WinNt" and logon to the new installation and perform a install using the same EXE on the same disk without any problems. I'm guessing that this is a registry problem with the "WinNt" installation, but have no idea of how to overcome it.
All advice/help appreciated.
