Comment: I recently got this laptop as a hand me down and it has windows 2000 running IE 5. I am trying to install a Linksys wireless card into it and windows is telling me I need IE 5.5 or higher. I downloaded IE 6 from Microsoft and when I run it it says, "A previous installation has pending work requiring a reboot. You need to restart your computer to complete that installation befor running IE setup. Setup will now close." I rebooted and it still gives me the same error. Is there a way to get rid of that installation?

Reply: (edit)Try this: 1. Go in to the Registry and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager 2. Locate and delete any "PendingFileRenameOperations" values in the key. 3. Click "Yes" when prompted to delete. 4. Quit registry and run Internet Explorer 6 Setup. Life is more painless for those who are brainless.
