Can't get second HD to run on DMA mode

How do I get my second HD to run on DMA mode. Everytime I try to change it in disk management and reboot so the changes takes affect, the HD dissappears. If I change it back to PIO mode and reboot I can see my HD again in disk management. Please help anyone!

sounds like a hardware conflict (another device already using that channel)check the properties in device manager
