on windows 98 when i want to control which programs load at the start up id usually go thru my start bar, then to run and then type in the command "msconfig" and then wait for a window to pop up and then click on the "start up" tab and i can control whats being loaded at the start up etc. But how would i do that on windows 2000? becuase whenever i do that procedure on win2000 i keep gettin an error message when i type "msconfig" into run saying something like file cannot be found.
if anyone knows the answer to this could they please email me to, leej_w@hotmail.com it would be much appreciated as my computer is driven me NUTS!!!
thanx

"msconfig" does not exist in Windows 2000... it's a huge fail by microsoft. to control the programs that load at the start of windows, you need to go by the registry... type "regedit" in the run box... i don't remember in wich place is in the registry.

Go to the "Start" button, click on "Run" and type 'regedit' without the quotes.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\RunOn the left pane of that window, it will list all the apps and services that load on bootup. From here, you can delete any services or apps you don't want to load.

Why cant you just go to the startup folder for all users through windows explorer and just remove the application from there. THat is the link to it.

you can copy msconfig from a 98 machine, or from this website, or there are alternative programs mentioned.

Warda is correct . You can go directly to your "start menu" in your directory and delete the items in the startup folder. You can also go to the preferences of that certain program sometimes and disable startup on boot.

You can remove SOME of the apps that load on bootup from the Startup folder. However, not all the apps that launch on bootup are called from the Startup folder. Most of the apps are called from the registry key that I mentioned above. This is the best and most effective way of disabling appls and services from loading on bootup.
