Comment: I downloaded a song and evidently the file name is too long. I can't delete it, open it, rename it or access its properties. Msg tells me the file can't be found or the name is too long. Anyone know how I delete it?? Thanks

Reply: (edit)I had a similar problem a while ago - I seem to recall that deleting it in a command window worked, using the short 8.3 name. If the filename is say, thisisalongfilename.mp3, the short name would be the first 6 chars followed by ~1 (~ is a tilde), in this case thisis~1.mp3 A couple of later occurences were fixed using a Norton DiskDoctor scan.

Reply: (edit)Rambler, I tried your suggestion but the file would not delete. I can see it in DOS as a file but when I try to delete it it says it can't find it. I'll look into Norton next ......any other suggestions??? Tom.........

Reply: (edit)Bring your DOS window up (Command Prompt - XP) and find the folder that the image is in. If it's the only image in the folder, this is the best way to do it. Use the command 'erase *.jpg' (if it's a JPG), which basically erases all JPG files in the folder that you're currently in. Has worked for every file I've had like that. Hope this helps.
