I just fresh installed windows 2000 on my machine and I can't get this thing to connect. I have a cable modem and I'm sure that works because I have a laptop and that has no problem.
The reason why i freshed installed was becasue I had windows 98 before and one day when I started it up I couldn't connect, and after the install still no luck.
I have 2 nic cards installed and I tried both cards, took one out, switched the cat5 cable, put it in different pci slot, and driver updates. All of this is set to auto config and I have the proper computer name to connect. The light is on and in windows it says I'm connected but not recieving any packets. My peer to peer connection with my crossover cable, it works fine. What could it be? I tried everything, please help. Thanks.

Im presumming that the machine that connects to the internet is not this one.
Have you checked the workgroup name, ip settings and subnet mask?
Can the other pc's see that one in network neighbouhood

This computer is my work computer.
The workgroup is what its suppose to be "@home" (I have comcast cable), ip is set to auto and subnet too.
I have no idea what to do next.
I know in xp when you open up status you have that other tab with the ip and stuff, with 2000 it didn't see it. So for some reason its not getting ip and stuff. Windows 2000 doesn't have winipcfg right? So the status is the only way to see your ip?When I get home I'll try manual settings but anyother ideas? Thanks.

to get your ip address:
start, run, type: cmdthen in the DOS window type:
ipconfig /allthat will give you plenty of info
OR
start, settings, control panel:
network and dial-up connections
right-click your local connection, properties
then scroll down to tcpip, and select properties again

I GOT IT TO WORK!
DAMN AND IT WAS SO EASY AND STUPID FOR ME TO NOT THINK OF IT.I called comcast expecting them to send someone or something, and I explained to the woman what my situation was, and first she asked if i have a nic card, so I was like yes, and then she was like did you reset your modem? I was like no.
AHHHHHHH That was all I had to do, reset the damn modem!
She said something like that when a new computer is hooked up it needs to configure a new mac address or something. Thanks for all your input. Damn I'm glad its working now.
