I assume that your computer is plugged directly into your cable "modem" via a network cable or is plugged into a router which is plugged directly into your cable modem?

You will need to make sure you have working Windows 2000 drivers for your network card. If you do not know how to find drivers, myself or someone here might be able to help if you know the model of the PC or better yet the model or part # of your network card.

Yes, check Device Manager to see if ALL hardware is working properly.

Did you install the Chipset and other drivers?

What service pack is currently installed?

Did you follow the screen instruction in connection wizard? If not, do so. If you use the computer at home then you are not part of a domain.

If the network adapter shows it is working properly in Device manager then you don't need any more drivers for the LAN. If you can connect with another OS on the same computer then the modem must be OK too.

I am not on a Win2000 machine right now and I can't recall the exact sequence. That said, I already said not to use a domain.

The worst thing that can happen if you make the wrong choices is that it won't work. Go for it. You are connecting directly to a cable/ dsl modem aren't you? If so, check the box to NEVER connect using dial up connection.

Go to the link below and then enter the service tag number off your case to find all the exact drivers. There may or many not be any for Win2000.

I asked you if the network adapter in Device manager is working properly. If there is a listing for a network adapter and there are not yellow or red exclamation marks next to it, then it is working right. In that case, drivers aren't going to help.

Why are you making everything so difficult? Install all the drivers that are dedicated to your configuration. That is why you should enter the service tag off the case.

If you are not getting sound under SOME circumstances or video either, then you may need to get additional codecs. Download and install k-lite.

Double click the link below. After you are there enter the service tag number in the box labeled Service Tag.

Then DOWNLOAD ALL the the drivers for your Dimension 8200 for Win2000.

Sound is there but there are multiple devices. The service tag will narrow it down to one.
