I am logging into a newly created w2k RAS VPN server machine from an XP client using this newly configured VPN. The XP client is home version of xp. I can connect but CAN'T BROWSE. When I click on network neighborhood, it hangs then won't let me see any resources or servers on the remote network. This is an example of what I get when I type IPCONFIG:
I am using a cable provider for an ISP if thats what you mean? I am connected to that full time and not dialing up. I simply click on the VPN Icon I created for the connection right after this. It says I am connected but then I cant browse no matter what. It is also not connecting me to the proper default gateway for my remote network. In fact after I type ipconfig /all it shows I am connected to the network however, and states the proper setting for the dns server but a blank setting for the default gateway. This is puzzling...Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : this is correctAs you can see, it doesn't get a default gateway. and incorrect subnet mask. I tried to correct the prob by creating a DHCP server and then it started handing out 169.254 addresses and more incorrect info to my client... I added wins, DHCP, and DNS and openned up GRE UDP TCP protocols on the firewall. Checked and re-checked permissions, remote access policies, server setting etc....And technet, did a search here and didn't find an answer. Is there an un-opened firewall protocol that would prevent me from browsing? Thanks in advance.

what firewall is in front of the server you are connecting to?
is it a works server?
is the pc you are connecting from yours or works?

Thanks for the questions. The w2k VPN server is behind the firewall at work. At home I am using XP home version as the VPN client. It is important to note that I only have 1 network adapter on the VPN server. Could this be the problem even though I am behind the firewall? More specifically, The client connects to an address on the firewall that is "Nat'd", if you will, to the VPN server...Does this configuration make any sense?

Here is the latest:
Here's the ipconfig /all result just so you can see while I am checking for blocked protocols:

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No shouldn't this be YES?
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 169.xxxxxxx(wrong)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : (wrong)
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :blank
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . :blankLooks like its going to a "internal" connection rather than the local are connection that I need it to. God knows why!? I only have 1 network adapter however and article I recently read states you only need 1 adapter on the VPN server if you are using NAT and a firewall that is reached b4 the VPN server..DHCP is enabled via my domain controller. It is active directory though. Perhaps I should be logging into active directory and not the local computer??

LATEST..First of all, I follow up my questions, why? Only logical, so many can benefit from the few. Ok, so here was the problem
#1 W2k doesn't need 2 adapters for the VPN server so- throw that idea out and remove that 2nd adapter..
#2 W2K VPN server defaults to local accounts so better have those local users set up b4 you try to map a drive.
#3 I can map drives now. Why? I have LOCAL user account on each server AND I have a static ip address's configured under IP tap of properties of Remote ACess server. Most importantly, these static addresses are "understood" by the firewall. Lastly, it's ok that the default gateway under "route print" on the client shows same addr as the clients assigned addr by VPN server. K?
