I have hard-drives in removeable racks. To backup I use Powerquest Drive Image 7 to copy the master (C)drive to a slave (G) partition in a second rack. To check the backup I first boot the cloned drive as the master drive to an old W95 floppy with FDISK. At the A:> prompt I enter FDISK /MBR to erase the G letter assignment, then I remove the floppy and reboot the system to the cloned drive. This has always worked like a charm with the original 512MB DDR400 ram.
I just added another 512MB DDR400 module to bring ram up to a gig. Now I can't boot a cloned drive. If I don't FDISK it, it boots to the "Loading Personal Settings" stage, then gives me a "Limited Virtual Memory" message about Paging File size. If I FDISK the MBR, it won't boot past BIOS. I get a message like "NVIDIA boot failed".

Funny you should ask. I “assumed” that the additional memory had created the problem because it created a siimilar problem with booting of a Windows 98 system installed on another hard disk (the problem was reconciled by increasing the MaxFileCache setting in System.ini).
But, to answer your question – no, the cloned drive will no longer boot after FDISKing the MBR as it did before – with or without the additional 512Mb. So now I’m REALLY stumped.
