I disabled Norton Antivirus, installed the Canon software (& TWAIN drivers), connected camera and powered camera up to no avail. System does not recognize installed driver and wants to install a "New PCI device" upon every startup. Followed Canon's advice by deleting associated oem*.inf and pnf files. Reinstalled Twain drivers, again, with no change. Device manager keeps reporting it under "other devices" as a PCI device with no driver (code 28). If needed, I can email screen shots of any requested views.

Hi,

Do you have the most recent version of the driver from the Manufacturer and is the camera supported in Windows 2000. Check out Microsoft's most recent version of the HCL (Hardware Compatibility List), and determine if you hardware is listed, at www.Microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp

Also the other option is, do you have driver signing options enabled, maybe your driver isn't digitally signed and you have set driver signing to block any un-signed drivers. Go to START/SETTING/CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM/HARDWARE TAB/DRIVER SIGNING BUTTON. If you system has been set to block, this could be the problem, by default Windows should set it to Warn.

Let me know.

Mark

Which Canon digital are you using?? When I got my EOS 1-D and tried to load the software provided by Canon, I seem to remember getting the same errors. If you have the 1-D, most of the settings that you can change thru the software are changable thru the use of custom functions. If you are trying to download to your pc from the CF card, you might want to try ACDSee as your preview program.

Hello,
Did you by chance try to install the camera while having other usb devices in your computer at the time of install? I have seen many camera drivers that conflict with printer and especially scanner devices(HP and Lexmark). If this is the case, remove the camera drivers totally and then disconnect all usb devices from the system before reinstalling the camera. I have even had to go as far as uninstalling a usb lexmark printer and then install the camera first. In any event I have seen and resolved this very same issues on three different occasions. 2 of which were SONY camera's and one was with a cannon.
