Subject: Cannot see domain
OS: w2k
CPU/Ram: sometimes
Comment:

I just upgraded 2 98's to w2k. (acually, I've just done 15 but only 2 had an issue) When finished, I could no longer put them on the domain they should reside on, nor could I see them from a domain controller.

Furthermore, I cannot get them online either. We're on a LAN, btw.

I've gone through the network identification and all that, but I cannot see the domain. NIC is fine, cables are fine. Any thoughts???

What are your IP settings? Static or DHCP?
you need to check and make sure your workstations are all on the same lan, subnet and have the proper pointers to DNS, etc.

Static IP. Do you know the Run command for IPCONFIG on a W2K or XP machine?

Start-run-cmd
at the c: prompt type ipconfig /all
This will give you your settings if it is DHCP
For static right click on My network Places on your desktop and select properties. Select your connection and properties again. Opening up the TCP/IP settings from this location lets you see what it is hard coded to and allows you to change it.
Hope that helps.

When I select properties on "my network Places", it goes straight to a connection wizard for internet only. Did I miss something in the setup???

hmmmm.... Sounds like it isn't seeing your NIC.
When you installed win2k did you make sure the NIC drivers were installed?
Right click on my computer and select manage. From there open device manager and make sure your NIC is installed with the right drivers and working. If it has a yellow question mark or you don't have a NIC listed (but have "other devices") you need to download and install the drivers from the manufacturer.

All devices are present. It's a mystery. Now on one machine, I can't even acess the cd.

I'm tossing it off the roof.
