Hello, recently I installed an antivirus program however forgot to uninstall any previous antivirus programs that were on the computer, now that there are several this causes my computer to freeze at start up, I read in the manual of the virus program I bought that the best bet is to run the computer in safe mode, however when trying to do this the computer freezes as well, Is there a way I can uninstall without going into safe mode? or is there another way to get into safe mode to uninstall? Cannot access my computer at all. Thank you!!!

You need to start, run and then type regedit and navigate the registry and remove all registry keys that have any thing to do with the old program that messed up your new anti virus prog.. If you dont know what to do type regedit in google and learn how to use it ok.

ok so would I be able to access regedit from DOS? I cannot start my computer whatsoever through regular or through safemode. Thanks for your help

yes but before you do try typing scanreg is dos because with that you can fix problems with the registy and get back in to windows..

Try booting with the "Last Known Good Configuration".
To do this, repeatedly press the F8 key while Windows is booting. This will bring up the Boot Menu. Arrow down to where it says "Last Known Good Configuartoin" and see if you can boot that way.

how exactly do I type in scanreg or chkdsk in DOS, I have tried typing these in dos as follows:
C: chkdsk
And its giving me "bad command" also my windows does not show "Last Known Good Configuration" listed it only gives the following options:
Safemode
Logged
Normal
Step by Step Configuration

The command is (chkdsk c: /f). Chkdsk needs to know what drive to check and the /f is to tell it to fix errors it finds.

can someone please help, I input chkdsk c: /f however in dos its saying bad command, Im starting to feel that Im never going to be able to start up my comp. Thanks again

Chkdsk is what is called an external DOS command. It is like format and fdisk. You need to have the file chkdsk.exe on a floppy so you can run it. Only the basic DOS commands are in command.com, like DIR and some others. Once you get the file on a disk then it will run as I posted.
