CPU/Ram: pentium 3 512MB

I have built my own comptuer and everything works fine i just isntealled win 2000 I want intenret explorer to open my jpegs and gifs but when I try to open them in there it shows the little square graphic of the image that the image could be loaded I also cannot open any jpegs or gifs in microsoft paint. I have installed microsoft office for the graphics filters but that seemd to not have worked for some reason. I also tried to install the grpahics manually but no luck any help is appreacited thanks
