"attempted safe mode and started the process and never made it to actual safe mode, it asked for a password." So, it's not getting to Windows, and it's asking for a password when the machine boots?

I have had the same problem since 1 yr ago and had to abandon my PC for my laptop. I did not set any password when I upgraded from 98 to 2000 and it has locked me out since. 2000 keeps asking me for a password that doesn't exist and won't let me into my PC. Help someone! I need the files on my desktop.

Did you disable the default admin acct? If not when you see the logon screen for user enter adminastrator and I don't remember default admin having a pw so don't use 1. If it works let me know. If all else fails google erb commander. Its a pw recovery utility

on the road again!!

By default, there is no password for the Administrator account. When on the log in screen, leave the password field blank and click ok.

If the installation of Windows 2000 is fresh, after it was previously owned, than you should beable to log on.
