My system is failing to connect to the internet using IE6, Netscape, Firefox, the VB WebBrowser and Outlook Express. I have other exe applications ( QuoteTracker ) which are still working correctly to the internet.
I tried reinstalling IE6 to no avail.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

um maybe you can tell us how you are connecting to the internet? Have you checked the "connections" tab under Internet Options to make sure you are configured correctly?

Well the good new is, that I left my machine for a couple of hours and when I returned it was working. This is very curious to me because I have two machines on a DSL/LAN, and one machine worked properly all along, while the other didn't.
I did check the connections tab, and found that the 'Automatically detect stttings' was not selected on the problem machine, but at that point it seemed to have self mended anyway.
Thanks for your help. Not sure what the problem was, but very likely klutz operator entered in somewhere!!

if you don't have a router but just a hub or switch connecting to your dsl connection the problem will be back.
Usually only one ip address is assigned to you by your isp. Without a router only one machine can be on at a time.
FYI

Well you are right, the problem is back. I have had this network for close to 5 years without this problem. I currently have 3 machines on my network and normally all work fine. Today one is failing as described earlier.
I am using a 10base-T, 8-port hub. Can you give me more info on what the issues are, and what is triggering the problem?
Can I manually reset something to get the problem machine going when it fails?

Above site lead me to at least a temporary solution.
Under TCP/IP properties, I just needed to select 'automatically find DNS server' and all was well.
