Hello all,

I got Windows 2000 on my machine. When reinstalling the system a few months ago, I did not format the drive, so there are several profiles left in Documents and Settings. I was trying to delete one of them,
and the folder .../Local Settings/Temp/Temporary Internet
Files/Content.IE5 allowed me to remove everything but 3 folders with
one file in each: 2UUHPTGQ, KTU745MR, KXAVSLY7. When I try to delete either one of the folders, it I get an error: "Cannot delete
AF_Pop~.HTM: Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and filename."

Right-clicking the mouse on either of the files does not allow any of the available actions (delete, rename and such, do not do anything
when clicked). Trying to view the properties also fails with "The properties for this item are not available".

I don't know what those files are, they seem completely random with very long names. One of them begins with "AF_Popunder;kw=hillary+clinton..." The names of the other too are also very long and look like a radom set of letters and numbers. All
are HTML documents.

Could someone please help me get rid of this annoyance?

Thank you,
M

HI,

Those folders are configuration settings for internet for those profiles. Sometimes they get uge and complex names. To delete or rename the folders you must have the apropriate permissions. To do that log in as administrator, right click the profile folder-security-advanced-take ownership. Then grant administrator-Full Control on the profile folder.
Now you must be able to delete, rename, and what ever on the profile folders.

I'm sorry to jump in as I'm unsure how to send a general msg inquiring how to delete "mywebsearch"? I've tried to remove from add/remove programs, and I did, but it still appears. After reading, I tried to go to "run", then type "msconfig" and a window appears stating incorrect path.
Can someone help me, I am new to this and appreciate patience.
Sean

Hello Winetree,

thank you for your reply. I am logged in as administrator though, and do have all the permissions (on the profile folder) at "full control". The problem remains...

I have the same problem. Then I tried deleting these files from dos prompt. YOu have to move to the folder where the long file named file are existing. Those may not be shown in you directory listing at dos prompt. but you can still move in to these directories by typing the complete directory names with CD commond. Once you you move in to the directory, your " del . " command should work.

Good luck/

Raghu
