Comment:

I'm having problems installing Win2000 Pro.
Get to 17% of the file copying stage of Win2000 installation and get message, 'cannot copy file driver.cab'. Happens on clean install and upgrade. The CD is OK as I've installed from it successfully on a different PC.

Hard drive 20GB, single partition.

CD-ROM is Creative, model CD3630E. Is there a filesize limitation on this model as driver.cab is 50MB?

RAM is 256 (2 sticks of 128MB). Have tried using 1 stick at a time to check for bad memory.

try using a different CD.... if that doesnt work, try a different CDROM drive... coz crative has a really really bad disk-read reputation

try putting your computer on its side. it has to do with the motor that moves the laser inside the drive. the track the motor moves on wears away after awhile and causes the laser to shake, if you rotate the drive you will expose the motor to fresh area of track and it works more smoothly. Sounds retarded but i had this exact same problem and this worked. It also worked for my old playstation that stopped playing games. i have to turn the thing upside down if i wanted to make it work
