You can right click recycle bin then select properties and delete instead of sending to the recycle bin first. I don't know the answer to your question.

C:\Recycled is actually your Recycle Bin. The shortcut on your desktop is just a special shortcut. I reccommend that you DO NOT delete it.

- but always make sure that your virus checker scans it... most don't by default and there are viruses that specifically use it to hide in.

Are you talking about the thing that is left after you reformat your hard drive?
If so, I am going to have to look that up. I read about it somewhere, and I would ike that info myself.

Recycle Bin and Recycler can't be exactly the same thing, because I just emptied my recycle bin, and yet there's still some 12 MB in recycler. not only is this inefficient and irritating, but has security implications as well. Can't I bypass it or something?
I just want one damn recycle bin, and when i empty it, i dont want hidden files taking up precious space on my HD. this is not a lot to ask.

It is the recycle bin. Aaron, I've seen you post messages before and anything you don't understand you call stupid. It's a system file\folder and set on purpose so rookies like you don't delete it. It's a read only folder.
If you want to delete it so bad, change the attributes and NTFS permissions on it and delete it. While your at it, delete your WINNT folder too, it takes up a lot of disk space. It's stupid too.

glen is right... but if you are emptying the recycle bin and there is still 12MB, then it sounds like something strange is going on. emptying the bin leaves the files that are constructed to hold deleted items in their smallest state. my empty recycler folder is 6KB and nowhere near a meg. are you using partitions? you could just pick up a new hard disk is space is such an issue.
i must admit that i have always hated the recycle bin, until one day it saved a really useful chunk of info that i thought i would never need again, deleted and then needed the next day.
