My computer is old, 6 years old but in it's day it was the height of coolness. It only has a 9gb memory I have 3.10 GB left and I am trying to free more, I have deleted all programs and files that are not in use. How can I see what is taking up all this memory? I have 3000 spy ware and ad ware files on my computer? Does this take up memory? I cannot get rid of it after using every free spyware prog, it either crashes the computer or removing spy ware damages my network and then I have to restore it. Help me please. Oh yes I also have annoying error alerts which pop up for a program, how can I get rid of these too? My computer is on windows 2000, it was made by an unknown company called NCI.

First of all, the correct term is not memory, but "HDD Capacity" or "Storage Capacity." All files take up space. So, yes, your spyware will certainly take up space. Removing spyware will not damage your network, so if you can't get rid of the spyware, you could always backup your data and reformat and reinstall Win2K.

If you want to see what's taking up the most space, do a search for files over a certain size. Then, you can decide which of those data files (NOT program files) you can delete to free up more space on your HDD.

As for the "annoying erro alerts which pop up for a program", it would help if you state the name of the program and the error you're receiving.

I've been using CCleaner for about 8 months and it eliminates huge amounts of junk files that accumulate on all PC's. I've never had a problem with it and it is the best program of its kind that I've found. Some people report that 120MB's of junk files were removed. Run it a couple times.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner.html

Download it and run it at default settings.

It gives the option to back up registry, I don't and it has never given me a problem -- You can back it up if you want, it gives you the choice.

Please post back and let us know how many MB of junk it removes from your PC.
