Hi, I am having problem with both my C: and D: drives of my computer. I have Windows 2000 Professional, Built on NT Technology. When I turn on the computer I get the error Limited Virtual Memory and tells me "Your system has no paging file or the paging file is too small.", and tells me what to do to fix that. I try fixing it but both my drives show "zero" space on it, like it doesn't recognize that the drive has space. The computer itself still has it's files and everything but doesn't recognize the drives. I can't seem to change the paging numbers if the drives are not accessible. I logged in as Administrator. Please let me know what I can do to fix this. Thanks!

Camila

Camila,

When you boot the computer, is the HDD being detected during POST? Can you see the HDD in the BIOS?

How comfortable are you with removing the case and checking the cable connections?

Hi Camila,

It does not sound like hardware.

Get a 98se boot disk here:

From your information I would think either you have a disk reporting error or the drives are really full with no space.

Ideally your first step is to get to a cmd prompt and type chkdsk /f on c: and then on d: answering yes to the question. Once complete shutdown and reboot. Check disk will run on both drive letters.

If you can't get into the system due to the pagefile error you can do the same chkdsk routine from booting the w2k cd going into recovery console.

Chkdsk will determine if there are errors on the disk and fix them. Once back in look at the properties of the drives. Is there any free space??? If not run disk cleanup off the accessories menu/system tools/disk cleanup

report back what you find.
