Comment:

I have Nero Burning Rom version 5.5.7.8 that came with my Samsung cd writer about a year ago.

Recently I reformatted my hard drive and did a clean reinstall of everything. After this I got this problem when writing (music) cds:

As soon as the program starts reading the files from the hard drive (I haven't tried wavs only mp3s but they worked fine before the format) the CPU usage jumps to 100% and the computer becomes all slow. Also, the "cd-writer-buffer-meter" in the Nero write dialog jumps up and down, when it before the format stayed constantly at 98% etc.
Apparently there's some protection in the program/writer so the writing doesn't get f***ed, but afterwards it says "Buffer underrun avoided 40 times" or similar.

What to do?

Make sure you have the CD burner set to DMA mode

You might want to look at this on buffer underruns avoided:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread/t-43845.html
Which concluded:
"After reading & searching trough different topics about 3 hours and NO ANSWER found I tried to delete the "SIS Bus master IDE Controller" & installed it manually as a "standard IDE controller"
After the neccesary reboots W2K finally found My plextor as a UDMA 2 drive & all works fine now."

SO DON'T INSTALL SIS IDE DRIVER FOR W2K."
