I am having problems writing to USB flash drives, everytime that I try to do so I get a NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS BSOD. I have tried different USB ports on different USB controllers (one integrated into the motherboard, and one on a PCI card). I have also tried it with two different flash drives. I will admit that twice I have removed a drive without stopping it (I keep forgetting that you have to do it manually in Windows 2000, as opposed to XP).

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Try removing the flash drive drivers from the system and then reinstalling the drive without doing anything else. I had a similar problem and this was how I fixed mine.
(remove them in safe mode is probably a better idea.

Nope, that was a no-go... same problem

Other thoughts:

Could it possibly be the eMachines card reader (the case is from an eMachines T2825, and the front ports had the same pinout as the motherboard). I don't have eMachine's driver installed, besides I think it is only for Windows XP (and My Computer lists the drives for the bay reader, too)

...would an upgrade to XP solve the problem? I am using Windows 2000 because I prefer its interface, but if I must use XP, I will...

Just a link to it with the drivers if you didn't have it.
Looking at the site they seem to list no older OS drivers so they didn't intend for anything else than XP on it. But they may exsist somewhere else if they do have any.

Is the card reader the one your putting the USB stick in if yes try one of the rear ports instead. If it does the same try taking the reader out and trying the USB stick again. If it works then it's possibly the card reader and a Win2K thing.

If you did go to XP you can change the theme to Windows Classic which is Win2K theme and then change the start menu to classic as well, and it basically is Win2K but only in looks. (yes and a few similarities since this is NT 5.1 :p ) Better to do a clean install rather than an upgrade, if you can that is. Example securing all your files on cd's, dvd's other partitions etcetera.

The way it is set up is that the mobo has capabilities for two front USB ports, the card reader uses one, then there is a regular USB port for the other. I have tried the flash drives on the front port, and in a USB 1.something PCI card, same results. I will try unplugging the card reader from the mobo. IF that don't work, I guess I will have to do a clean install of XP.

The reason I don't like XP isn't just the Luna theme (which I know how to turn of), but it is also the task-based interface in Explorer, and the time it take me to set it up for what I do (yeah it may sound strange, but it is actually easier for me to set up Windows 2000/ ME for my needs than XP). Oh, well.

Hopefully I will be getting a Mac soon...

I really appreciate all the help I have gotten so far, thank you.

Well, disconnecting the card reader didn't work :(, I guess I will have to go with XP... (at least I have the pro version with sp2, less updates upon install)
