I am taking care of a network at my church. The server is running Windows 2000, and there are 8 workstations running Windows 98. The network was running fine until the modem and router were struck by lightning. After replacing those, the win98 workstations were unable to login to the server. There are 2 XP workstations that can login fine though. Now I heard about Win98 needing a browse master, but I am not familiar with how you set it up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ALL microsoft nos products require a master broswer. You don't have to set one up its automatic.

Can the 98 stations connect to the internet? Their ip address is in the same range as the server? Are they getting their ip address from the router?
