Comment:

My computer runs Windows 2000 professional and it gets to the windows 2000 splash screen and it completes and then it goes to a black screen and doesn't display the logon screen. If i reset the computer and do it again it will do the same until about the 5th or 6th time and then it will boot up normally and will be fine. It is an intermitiant issue, but it very rarely comes on first time. Does anyone know of anything? Thanks

Check all components (cards, connectors etc.) are securely installed. Check RAM is properly seated.

Might be a Power Supply issue, but I'd be inclined to a possible failing RAM stick or three...

I doubt it's component related or a RAM issued. If it were it wouldn't get that far. Checkin' it wouldn't hurt though.

Once you do get to log in, you might want to try running a check disk with both options checked (auto fix files and recover from bad sectors). It sounds like it's having a hard time reading the MSGINA or something like that. Could also be a conflict with another GINA file. Have you installed anything new recently?

I have checked everything is seated correctly & wuld think it wuld b a software issue rather than hardware. No i haven't installed anything new, before the system had Windows 98SE on and i never had this problem, its only recently started. Is there anyway of me finding out if it is a problem with the msgina.dll file or if it is conflicting with it? I don't really want to have to reinstall it, but would it make a difference if i did? Also is there any reason why it boots up fine after a few goes? Why does it not bootup at all?
