I have a pc here which had a 2nd hard drive. That HD, had at one stage, Powerquest bootmagic installed on it but as the HD (and subsequently Bootmagic) and not around it returns an error just before windows starts.
The error is:-
-.|...|||
Error finding BTMAGIC.IMG
Run Bootmagic Install
Press a key
I cannot uninstall bootmagic as it can't find it yet I can't install it as it knows it is kinda there!?!
Is there some way I can stop this loading just before Win 2k starts?

Hello

While booting your W2k, the system tell you 'Press F8 for (forgot the next)...', you will press F8, then choose recovery console.
Once it is done, just to type FIXMBR, you will rewrite your Master Boot Record. Reboot, and that will be ok, you will be able to (re)install your BootMagic

I hope that will help you

ay, I just worked out how to fix this, believe me, it was some work to do, I spent many hours, then finally figured it out with the help of my friend john, ok, so here's what you do:
Go to run, type regedit, when in the registry, go edit--> find and search for "bootmagic" then delete everything with bootmagic there, and i mean everything, then search again and again and delete it all. After that, get the bootmagic installer, and see if you can reinstall bootmagic, if you can, you're set, if you can't cause it says it already installed but can't find some file, search the registry again, and delete all the bootmagic stuff, also btmagic is bootmagic, delete that too. Okay, now that that's done, you can reinstall bootmagic, then turn off that sucker, then when it's off, make sure it's off this time, uninstall that shiz forever!

And that's that for bootmagic. What a hassle.

p.s. if you can't reinstall, and have deleted all the registry, and it says something like can't create on NTFS, you'll need to create a small 50mb FAT partition, easy to do, install bootmagic there, turn it off, uninstall bootmagic USING THE INSTALLER PROGRAM(it performs repairs and deletes as well) then delete the partition.

Problem solved ay, just e-mail me if you have problems, narskate@hotmail.com.

Anyway good luck.

I came across this thread while having a Bootmagic re-install nightmare myself and 'bennetts' post fixed it, cheers.
I was wondering if you are supposed to be able to hide the partition with BM on so it is not visible in 'My Computer, as I'm sure i was before?(I am able to hide it when I am in my secondary boot).
I had to recently reinstall my default/primary OS and since then I can't hide the Bootmagic partition. This is how I ended up uninstalling it, wrongly, and then not being able to put it back in.
Any ideas?
