Hi, Tech Gurus
Is there any way to open the "boot.ini" file and eliminate an invalid command line that show up on boot up? --- thanks

Yes, you can edit your boot.ini file. It is a hidden file that is located on your first partition with an operating system (most likely c:\). As it is a hidden file, you will need to make sure that you have "Show hidden files and folders" selected in Windows Explorer. You can check this by going into Windows Explorer, clicking on Tools menu and then selecting "folder Options...". From the dialogue that appears, click on the view tab and then scroll down to "Hidden Files & Folders" section and select "Show Hidden Files & Folders" if not already selected. Then click OK to close dialogue box(s). You should then be able to open your boot.ini file with notepad to edit it. It's best to use notepad to edit file as text editors such as Word insert formatting codes into file as well.
Hope this was of help.
Trevor

I have win2000, and already changed the folder option to show hidden files, but boot.ini is not showing anywhere, tried search for file but did not find it. could it be somewhere else, or any other file-name or proceedure I can do?

Hi,
To view the boot.ini file you need to go into Windows Explorer, click on Tools --> Folder Options and click on the view tab. You have to uncheck the option "Hide protected operating system files".

You can also install the msconfig.exe (easy to find on the net) into C:\WINNT\system32 and execute it under the run command and you'll be able to edit the boot.ini from there.

Hi guys
I've tried every suggestion that was placed on this boord. msconfig only turns of the programs that auto-loads in the system tray. I will get back to you guys on the Run boot.ini - thing. --- Thanks

Hi guys
The last suggestion to use RUN--> boot.ini, did not work on Win2000pro, it does not exist. But I had found some articles on "attrib", perhaps anyone could elaborate on applying this on editing the boot.ini. ---Thanks.

to locate the file first of all you have to log on as administrator
then go to view uncheck
1)hide file extensions for known type
2)hide protected opreating system files(recomemded)only then you can see the file in
c:\
by the view details option
good luck
