i have been tearing my hair out looking for this freakin' boot.ini file. i made sure all the files are unhidden, show extension, etc in folder option, no go. i did a thorough search both manually and with dif search options, no go. i don't know why it's not there. i have win98, win2k and trying to triple boot with linux. i did what Ernest M suggested and type "c:\boot.ini". well, the info shows up but still has no idea why i can't see it. i guess this will do for now, thanks for any other help

Use the find file option via the "start" button (bottom left) and type the file name as the search item - i.e. boot.ini

It will take you straight to its location.
