Comment: I have a deuel boot with win ME and win 2k. What I want to do is just remove win ME and keep all the 2k info. Someone had metioned that I would have to edit boot.ini in the root of my 2000 drive to remove references to the Me disk (in the [operating systems] section. I want to know how I would do that. I've gone into my computer management but havn't really ventured there before so I don't want to mess anything up. If someone has touched base on this before there help would be greatly appreciated.

Reply: (edit)I have installed Win2K 8 times and have never seen a "boot.ini" after the installation. I have created a boot.ini but I don't think Win2K needs one. If it doesn't find a boot.ini it will boot from the sys.32 folder. If you open the root directory and then make all files visible(unhide all files)in the folder options window. You'll see/or not see a boot.ini file. Delete it completely or replace it with a copy of mine, if you wish. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

Reply: (edit)I certainly wouldn't delete the boot.ini, your system won't start if you do. If you don't want the ME option at startup, go to Control Panel/System/Advanced Tab, Statup and Recovery and uncheck the box with "Display OS at startup". You won't get the dual boot screen any longer.

Reply: (edit)The Boot.ini is at the root of your C drive. You can't see it in 2000 because by default all system files are hidden. Open explorer goto tools then folder options deselect hide system files then you should see it. Double click on it then you can modify it. Just remember to save it.

Reply: (edit)though if you are changing the boot.ini be careful when you edit this. if you start playing with it and you have 2000 and ME in separate partitions, you may begin to get .krnl error messages. The boot.ini is created/established by window 2k when it detects 2 or more other os's besides itself.
