I've attempted to upgrade a Micron PC with a new motherboard. Installed K7S5A Pro with AMD 2000 chip. System would not boot up with "old" hard drive, nor with Win2000 bootup disks. Re-formatted and created partition on C: drive (after making a copy), then obtained a file to allow me to read the CD from DOS, only to find out that the "Setup" command can't be run in DOS. The Win2000 boot disks only get me to a screen that reads "Setup is analyzing your hardware configuration", but the system hangs up at this point. I've let it run for at least an hour, and it never gets past this step.

What do I need to do to get Windows 2000 re-installed on my HD and get it to boot back up in Windows again?

I've searched this site for help on "switching motherboards" and got the information that a "clean install" is the only way to go. That's what I'm trying to get to, but I can't get Windows to read the Win2000 CD or the Boot Disks without hanging up the system.

Thanks for the help.

IDE cables are they of the ATA66 flavour ie 80pin as opposed to the older 40pin?????

btw I have had two of these boards and both corrupted install, in the UK they are £3o = tax not surprising.

Thanks for the response, x86. No, the IDE cable sockets are a match between the old and new boards.

try using your dos boot disk and then run winnt.exe from the \i386 folder on your cd.
