Try booting to safe mode (F8) at startup. Then go to Control panel> Power options.

Is this a laptop computer?

I don't know if there is. Are you sure you did enter a password in the past? Try hitting enter. Try the link below.

i already tried to enter it blank but it keeps telling me that the login or pass is invalid. there is another screen name but it says its been blocked by the admin but i didnt do it. but i cant even get that far because it wont go any farther than the screen showing the info on the comp. just a grey box with blue lettering. i would try the site you're telling me but im not all that "up to date" with computers so i dont quite understand what it wants me to do. all help will be much appreciated.

The instructions are all there. Do you have any encrypted files on that computer? Resetting the password will render them unrecoverable. Do you have a computer available that can burn CDRs using a program like CD creator or Nero?

Do you have the restore CDs? Do you have any files that you must recover? Have you ever burned a CD?

Well, that could prove to be a problem. Do you have access to anyone with a little more experience in this area? Did you buy your computer new? How old is it? You may be able to buy restore CDs from Dell if it isn't too old.

If you use the restore CDs I keep mentioning you will probably lose all your person files. There may be ways to recover the files but I am not sure you are up to it. This is embarassing for you, I am sure. Think of this like you would owning a car. You need to know how to air the tires, check oil, use all the gadgets on the dash, etc. Computers are the same way. Now is a good time to learn. If you have another computer to use while you learn then that is what I suggest you do.

If you are interested in getting the CDs from Dell you need to contact them with the numbers off the laptop. Considering this is a Laptop they may require proof of ownership.

no i didnt buy it new. like i said it has a pentium processor. it says it was made for win 95. im not worried about personal files being that i have none. ive been reading on how to get past the logon screen so im not worried about that anymore. i just want to get TO the logon screen. if you could help with that it would be cool. and no im not embarassed at all 'cause i dont wear glasses.

Are you saying that when starting you tap F8 and you don't get to a login screen?

neither i dont even get a password screen at all..i was, but then all it does is say the amount of system memory has changed or the suspend-to-disk file is absent. See "Suspen-to-Disk File" in the online User's guide for instructions. then i type in my boot pass and it goes to the grey box and wont load anything else

Hi delllaplm, OtheHill, Jennifer SUMN

... it sounds to me like "suspend-to-disk "

is when you select the hibernate option

rather than shut down one. Some laptops

will use a file (in C:) for this, some use

part of a (hidden partition) which is

installed prior to your O/S.

... and some (older ones) use a standby

method when power from mains or battery is

present so by powering (back) up will resume

where you left off (never liked this).

... the strange thing is you should be able

to access your drive still (from experience)
mind you its been a while since I've used hibernation.

... I'd say try:

... Fdisk /mbr

via a bootup disk

Grrrr
wat do I know?
... got brain freeze
