Booting, but black screen

OS: Windows 2000
CPU/Ram: Pentium 4, 512mb

Dimension 2400. It seems to boot, if I hit Ctl-Alt-Del and type my password, the numlock light comes on, so I think it's logging into windows. But there's no screen, period, I can't even see the post screen or anything.

What I did was try to upgrade the intel video driver, so I uninstalled it and then rebooted. So it looks like maybe windows wasn't able to load a generic driver?? What can I do.

I've tried all the keys, f2, f5, f8, f12, nothing seems to work.

Drivers have nothing to do with POST.

Any beeps?

sounds more like it was disabled in the bios
