Hi

I am tring to get a clean install of win2000, but I cannot change the boot squence in a really old HP bios. There is no option for cd-rom.
Is there another way to partition and format for NTFS aside from booting with the w2k CD.

I belive that there are boot disks for NTFS based OSs but I don't have a clue what I nned to do. Please advise.

Thanks a million!

Doxy

On the W2K CD go into the bootdisk folder and use the MAKEBOOT.exe program. You'll need 4 floppy disks.

btw - r u sure the machine is up to running 2k (bios which can't boot from CD is not good news for running 2k).

Might be useful/wise to run the chkupgrd.exe util to vet the system for W2K. The util generates a report on what is/isn't Ok with the system as is for W2K; afterwards get all required updates (drivers etc.) before you run setup...

Is allegedly on "some" W2K CDs (not mine...); and it's around 'out there' if you do a search...

Doxy, if your PC is really a P4, I find it impossible to believe the bios on that board won't allow booting from a CDROM. I have a Pent 1 that allows it.
I'd have another look. Read the bottom of the BIOS screen carefully about how to make changes. Sometimes you need to use the Page up/Page down keys, sometimes it the + and - keys.
I have no doubt a Pentium 4 machine is capable of booting up off a CDROM.
Good Luck

Let's suppose your CD-ROM drive letter is E:. Then do the following:
1) Boot from the Startup 98 floppy
2) A:\>E:
3) E:\>cd i386
4) E:\I386>winnt
