I just need to know how to make a boot disk that will allow me to start dos, and not load windows 2000. I want to format my hard drive, so I can install something else. The file system is NTFS. The boot disks I make are missing a file called "NTLDR", and my computer won't let me boot to the disk without it. This file isn't on my computer. I DO NOT have my windows 2000 install disk. I haven't been able to find it since I switched rooms. I just want a boot disk that lets me work with my hard drive.

You DO have that file on your PC - its just a hidden file!
Click on 'Start' -> 'Run'.
Enter 'cmd' or 'command' into the box and press enter. A DOS-Box should pop up.
Type: 'copy c:\NTLDR a:\' (without the '') and it should tell you that one file was copied onto the disk.

Do you have access to a PC running Win98? If so you could create a Win98 startup disk.

Boot your PC with that startup disk and use fdisk to delete your old partition. Create a new partition, restart (with the startup disk) format the new partition, then install away.

You should at some point be given the option to convert your new partition from FAT16/32 to NTFS.

I know it sounds a lot more long-winded (and believe me it is), but it definitely works.
