Comment:

I am getting the blue stop screen from time to time, about every 7th start, it restarts OK and runs fine.

The text advises me to ensure all software and hardware are correctly installed, and to look at my 'getting started manual'

I have no such manual and can not see one listed in the programs. Any advice?

check your event logs for errors. you probably have a bad driver or a problem with a hardware device. without more info it isnt possible to say

Device manager shows all OK, no warnings in the event logger.

No, Just checked the event log after starting with the stop screen then re starting, the event log only says:

3:46 Microsoft (R) Windows 2000 (R) 5.0 2195 Service Pack 4 Uni processor Free.

3:46 The Event log service was started.

3:49 The user (my name) successfully established a connection to Dial-up Connection 2 using the device COM1.

The Stop error number was 0x00000022 (0x000202ef, 0x83e439d8,0x83e43920,0x83e48248)File System.

I googled the first part and that led me to a Microsoft page, but could no sense of it at all. but it seems it may be new hardware (I have no new hardware apart from a whole new tower complete) or a scanner, I have an all-in one fax/copy/scan/printer, Lexmark X6170 model.

Everything is running well, no errors and nothing showing in device manager, no conflicts, no forced devices.

I hope this helps to resolve thew problem.
