On boot up I get a blue "stop error" screen that tells me "yK51x86.sys device driver could not locate the entry point NdisMGetDmaAlignment in driver NDIS.sys". Trying to boot into Safe Mode gets the same blue screen. I tried copying ndis.sys from a working W2K SP4 OS to the sick one but still I get the same blue screen. Does anyone have any idea as how to fix this? Thanks.

Hi Bob,
Might want to do a google search of “yK51x86.sys"
The following are two of several hits that it found. Malware, or something!

Thanks for your response, CoffeeBreak. It turns out that this was just one of many stop error blue screens and failures to boot I had on this old tank. It acts like the entire hard drive is corrupted in one way or another. At one point the system couldn't even recognise the drive on bootup. Sometimes the W2K repair utility on the OEM disk was capable of fixing a problem only to have another one crop up. One was "Loader Error 3" (???). I finally gave up and reformatted the drive and reinstalled W2K. Now I am in the process of updating all the MS software and drivers and reloading all my programs and files. It's a pain, but it's kind of like cleaning out your garage - you need to do it from time to time.
Thanks again.

Yeah you might want to check that hard disk for failure.
