Am trying to re-install Win2kPro onto a PC that was successfully running Win2kPro before. Keep getting a blue screen of death relating to the ntoskrnl.exe file.
PC has an 80GB harddrive, current status is Primary partition is 20Gb (via fdisk & format - FAT32). Extended partition is 60GB (via fdisk, no logical drives or formatting).
As a tester, I did install an old copy of Win 98, and that appeared to be running fine, but after reforatting etc etc, Win2k Pro still will not load...same problem.
Any ideas out there?

Do you have the correct drivers at the moment of installation?. Sometimes Windows 2K/NT4 will end up in a BSOD if you don´t supply it with the right drivers during setup.

Since you did not put the specific error message in your post, I don't know if the following site will help, but here it is:

No new hardware, so i assume the drivers that were working before should still work now. But if that ssumption is wrong, how do I get 'new' drivers in, as it is not promptin me for anything.

Madman,
Thanks for you reference. I had actually already been to 14722, but I thikn I must be mad, useless or unmable to extrapolate to my situation. (Maybe a combination of all of those). I am using a Windows 98 boot disk which does not have a boot.ini file (should it?). And as for copying the ntoskrnl.exe file across, I am not exactly too sure where I should be copying the file to. There is no System32 directory created as this point. But please keep any info coming, Im sure the answer is out there somewhere.

In my XP Pro, ntoskrnl.exe is located in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32. If you need a copy just email me.

Here is another reference:

Did you manage to find a solution because I have the same problem and need a fix, or a copy of the file or both
