Has anyone ever seen or fixed this problem?
Windows 2000 on an IBM A30. Laptop is currently set up on erthernet. With no warning, laptop will bluescreen with the message: **STOP**
address BFF78a23
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLEDCheck for adequate disk space
Check hardware vendor for BIOS update
This is not the complete message, but hopefully someone gets the gist. This is a ghosted image.
Please HELP!!!

Have you gone to windowsupdate.microsoft.com to install the latest Critical and Recommended updates?
Have you already gotten the latest available BIOS update for the laptop, as well as the latest Windows drivers for the hardware?

You can review microsoft site www.technet.com ........but you know, the blue screen is always called the blue screen of death.....so your hard drive maybe need formatting!

Do a seach via google.com using the string:
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
(that exact part of the error message you're getting).
You'll get an assortment of input relating to it; it seems to have many variants and causes...
As 'Ali' comments the BSOD 'usually' means a reinstall; but 'not necessarily' a reformat - just a reinstall of the OS (and apps.)...
You could try an 'Upgrade of current installation' - it 'may' work OK - it won't hurt to try - if you do decide to re-install?
Similarly you could go for a second/parallel install to same partition. You will have a dual-boot - the crippled vesion and the second version (to which you will have to install the apps...) and can delete the original version once second one is in OK?
(The second version will probaly become " windows " - as " winnt " is already assigned to the crippled version; you can change this to perhaps winnt-2 during setup (I would...).
Either the Upgrade or the parallel install approach would/should preserve data intact; and the 'Upgrade' (if successful - and it isn't always...) should preserve most settings (apps etc.); but you would probably need to re-apply the sp.
Try either route from a CD boot/4 floppies approach - whichever. Also allow a full scan-disk - just to be sure drive is OK?
Useful if would post back with how you get on this one; also the (re)solution when/if you find it? That way 'we all' learn for future use?

Here is a possible fix I found using Google!
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLEDProblem
Client will crash to a Blue Screen at startup time during the drive discovery process or when shutting down the system. The error associated with the crash has been
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED with either the following drivers listed as the cause:
· PrtSeqRd.sys
· ClassPNP.sys
· ntoskernal.exeThe real problem is the PrtSeqRd.sys driver which gets installed with EZ CD Creator 5.
Solution
Upgrade the EZ CD Creator 5 application to 5.1 which is available at Roxio's website (http://www.roxio.com/). The installer removes the PrtSeqRd.sys driver. Do not attempt to rename or remove the driver manually as this may cause the boot disk to become inaccessible.
Version 5.1 is included with Compaq W8000 models that have CD-RW drives.
