Hi, I haven't used my windows 2000 machine for a few months. When I tried booting it up today, everything seemed fine, except that after the startup screen (the coloured one with the windows logo), I got a blank (black) screen, no cursor, nothing. Anyone know what might be the problem? Thanks, John

Try booting into Safe Mode by tapping F8 at startup. Once in safe mode go to device manager and have a look around for any hardware problems.

Hi OtheHill, You're a bloody genius. I did as you suggested, then reactivated the last known good configuration. Thanks. The reason I wanted to get my windows 2000 machine working is that I'm having trouble with a winnt4 laptop I was given. It's my own bloody fault. Anyway I was hoping I could use the windows 2000 machine to straighten out that problem. (Give me a problem with window 98 to solve and I'm O.K. but my ingorance of winnt and 2000 knows no bounds.) Would you mind having a look at this http://www.computing.net/windowsnt/... and letting me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks again, John

Not sure if it will help or not but you could try re-installing the video drivers while in safe mode.
