Black screen at boot up

Suddenly when I boot up my computer the only thing that appears is a faded flashing "Energy" logo at the top right of my screen. I can no longer see the memory (RAM) count and stuff. If I wait long enough it brings me to the windows logon screen and everything is fine from there on. However, I need to boot in safe mode and can't because the initial screen is black. I also noticed the monitor's green power light flashing and dim until I get to the windows logon screen. Has anyone ever heard or seen anything like this ?

There is no signal to monitor screen when the green idiot light flashes.Try a different unit first to make sure it is the monitor causing this.Good luck.

like jean said, check the monitor on another machine first. Next possible culprit would be a bad video card.
best of luck Frank :

I connected my PC on my Television and it worked fine. I think it might be my monitor.
However, I'm having a more serious problem now. I reinstalled windows 2000 and since then "Windows Installer" comes up every time I launch an application, with the following message: "Insert MGI VideoWave 4 disk". The problem is I no longer have this program. When trying to uninstall it I'm prompted for the MGI VideoWave 4 disk. I tried this in safe mode and get the same thing. Does anyone know how I could get rid of the "Windows Installer" pop-up ?
